Books N Bricks Cafe sits just a short stroll from Bucklands Beach’s shoreline, tucked away on Hattaway Avenue where it benefits from a sheltered spot that cuts out the coastal wind. This local cafe balances a relaxed, sunlit atmosphere with practical comforts—there’s both indoor seating for cooler days and a decent spread of outdoor tables that catch the afternoon light, perfect for lingering with a coffee or two.

This is a place that clearly appeals to a mix of locals and visitors looking for a solid brunch or casual coffee stop, especially on weekends or sunny mornings when the beach vibe is strongest. The menu leans into classic brunch with some twists: the Rosti Benedict stands out for those who enjoy poached eggs with a bit of flair—offered with options like smoked bacon or hot smoked salmon. Coffee lovers won’t be disappointed either; the flat whites and lattes are well-crafted, often praised for their quality and consistency.

Groups are well catered for here, with staff responsive and flexible about seating arrangements, making it a suitable spot for gatherings larger than just a couple of friends. The service feels both attentive and relaxed, which complements the easy-going atmosphere. Those who are fussier about tea will appreciate the generous size of the teapots served, a detail that hints at the cafe’s thoughtful approach to classic drinks.

The food selection extends beyond the usual, with standout sides like halloumi and roasted vegetables adding variety to the fare. Shared plates such as fries and baked goods like pecan pie or chocolate brownies round out visits for those craving something sweet alongside their coffee. The homemade pastries are fresh and popular, often prompting takeaway orders for later.

After your meal, a pleasant walk along the nearby beach feels like a natural extension to the experience here, making Books N Bricks an ideal spot for brunch that doubles as a casual social hub in this coastal part of Auckland. It's a practical lunch or morning stop for locals running errands, a reliable spot for visitors staying nearby, and an inviting place for anyone wanting a break from the usual cafe routine with a bit of sun, sea breeze (shielded here), and friendly faces.

Lovely café with a great range of food and beverages, just set back from the beach front. Though not able to see the sea, its location provides great shelter from the often harsh wind. Plenty of outdoor and inside seating. For larger groups it pays to book ahead.

This place just re-opened last week. Their bruch options are classic and delicious. They do a very good coffee! Would recommend the Rosti Benedict with hot smoked salmon! All their pastries and cakes are fresh and made in house too. Location is beautiful, you can half a walk along the beach after your meal! The new owners are lovely and very friendly!

We loved this place so much that we ended up visiting almost every day of our holiday! The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and the scones and muffins were so good we had to take some home with us. The staff was incredibly friendly, greeting us with warm smiles each day, which made us feel welcome and appreciated. We can’t wait to come back on our next holiday!

We had a really enjoyable breakfast experience at Books N Bricks Cafe yesterday morning. We started with a round of coffee, which was excellent and a great way to begin the day. For the meal, we ordered The Big Breakfast, which was satisfying and well-prepared, and the Rosti Benedict with grilled Halloumi, which was a delicious and interesting dish. The cafe's location is a huge plus. It was easy to find parking, and being situated so close to the beach was perfect. After our meal, we were able to enjoy a relaxing walk and the beautiful morning view. Books N Bricks is a wonderful choice for a quality breakfast in a convenient, scenic spot!

The Books and Bricks Cafe Where cobblestones meet the old town's hum, A haven of quiet, where good spirits come. Behind the façade of deep, russet stone, A story is waiting, and seeds have been sown. The window reveals a soft, amber glow, A sanctuary built where knowledge can grow. With walls of warm brick, sturdy and deep, The secrets of ages the architecture keeps. Inside, the scent hangs, a rich, heady blend, Of steaming dark coffee and stories that mend. Rows upon rows, like bricks stacked in line, The spines of the books, a beautiful design. A chipped china mug rests next to a tome, Each page a new journey, each chapter a home. The murmur of voices, a gentle, low sound, As travelers and thinkers are finally found. Here, time slows its pace, the world slips away, Lost in the turning of pages all day. From classics bound leather to modern bright verse, Each book is a window to a vast universe. So settle in deep, in a well-cushioned chair, With your brew and your reading, a moment to share. Between the foundation of brick, tried and true, And the boundless perspective the books offer you.
